Read The New York Times and other newspapers online with your Burnham Library card!

The New York Times

Burnham Library offers all patrons complimentary and unlimited access to everything The New York Times has to offer.  Access all of The Times — including News, Games, Cooking, Audio, Wirecutter, The Athletic, and all apps — from anywhere by following the instructions below:

At the Library

  1. Ensure you are using the library’s Wi-Fi connection. Visit nytimes.com using any device.
  2. Go to the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Click on “Log in” to create a free account or log in to your existing account.
  3. You now have full access to all news journalism on nytimes.com while logged in at the library. The New York Times app and select games including The Mini, Tiles, Letterboxed and the Games archive are not included as part of the onsite experience. You may follow the instructions below to access The New York Times apps.

At Home or On the Go

  1. Verify your library card. Click the link below and complete the form with your information.
  2. Bookmark the confirmation page. After you submit the form, a confirmation page will appear. Bookmark this page before clicking the NYT link. You will use this bookmark whenever you need to activate another 24-hour All Access Pass.
  3. Click the NYT link. The link opens a NYT page with a code already filled in. Click REDEEM.
  4. Sign in or create a NYT account. Follow the prompts to sign in to your existing NYT account or create a new one.
  5. Enjoy your access! Your pass gives you 24 hours of access.
  6. When your pass expires, start again. Open the bookmark you saved in Step 2 and click the NYT link again to redeem another 24-hour All Access Pass. You may need to sign in to your account again.

Note:

  • If you lose your 24-hour access link, come back to this page to re-verify your library card number and receive a new 24-hour access link. You do not need to create a new NYT account each time.
  • Users may not share sign-on credentials with anyone. 

Other Local and National Newspapers

Your Burnham Library card also grants access to current and historic newspapers through the Connecticut State Library! Visit the ResearchIT CT website to read past and current issues of the Chicago Tribune, Hartford Courant, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and other U.S. major dailies.
