Christy Bonaiuto with Seeing Things Differently

This October, Burnham Library will welcome local artist Christy Bonaiuto for “Seeing Things Differently,” an exhibition of abstract paintings and nature photography that invites viewers to look closer, imagine freely, and discover their own interpretations.

“What do you see?” is the exhibition’s central question. Bonaiuto embraces the idea that there is no single way to experience a work of art. Each viewer brings their own perspective, and what one person sees may be entirely different from what another imagines.

Bonaiuto describes her artistic process: “My artwork reflects my distinct vision and creative approach. Working with acrylics, I use a mix of techniques and tools, allowing each piece to develop organically. Shapes and imagery emerge as I work, giving my paintings movement and spontaneity. My titles add context and invite viewers to form their own interpretations.”

In addition to painting, Bonaiuto is a passionate nature photographer. Through perspective, composition, color, and detail, she brings a fresh viewpoint to the natural world, encouraging viewers to pause and notice the beauty in familiar things.

Visitors may also have the opportunity to participate in an interactive component of the exhibition by sharing what they see in selected works and adding their own interpretations to the experience.

An active member of the local arts community, Bonaiuto serves on the boards of Gallery 25 in New Milford, Great Hollow Photography Club, and the Sherman Artists Association. She also chairs the Sherman Commission for the Arts. A dedicated teacher, she is preparing to open her home studio in Sherman, where she will offer painting and resin workshops for artists of all experience levels.
