FreeHoopskirts to Flappers: Connecticut Fashion 1860 – 1930s
A woman born in 1850 who lived for 80 years would have seen fashion change dramatically in her lifetime. This program will walk you through our Costume and Textile collection to see how women’s clothing transitioned from the iron reign of the hoopskirt to the relative freedom of the flapper dress. Presented by the CT Historical Society Adult Programs Manager, Natalie Belanger. Natalie holds a B.A. in history from Smith College and an M.A. in women’s history from the University of Maryland. She has worked in museum education for most of her career and also teaches history courses at Manchester Community College.
