Martin Scorsese to shoot Caldecott winning book The Invention of Hugo Cabret in 3D! Set for a release in December 2011, Brian Selznick’s best-selling children’s book, a story set in 1930′s Paris and centers on a 12 year-old orphan named Hugo, who lives in a train station and must finish what his late father started by solving the mystery of a broken robot, will be adapted for the screen by the Oscar-winning director.I simply cannot wait! For those not “in the know,” this 526-page book is told in both words and pictures. The Invention of Hugo Cabret is not exactly a novel, and it’s not quite a picture book, and it’s not really a graphic novel, or a flip book, or a movie, but a combination of all these things. Each picture (there are nearly three hundred pages of pictures!) takes up an entire double page spread, and the story moves forward because you turn the pages to see the next moment unfold in front of you. You will LOVE it. Come in and borrow a copy. And check out the official website.

On September 24th, acclaimed filmmaker Zack Snyder makes his animation debut with the fantasy family adventure “Guardians of Ga’Hoole,” based on the beloved books by Kathryn Lasky. The film follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. You can find the Guardians Series here in the Junior Room and check out the movie’s official website.
