SUMMARY:Witches in CT - A Shepaug Libraries Event
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Gunn Memorial Library\nMore than a generation before the infamous Salem Witch Trials\, Connecticut went through a wave of witch trials and executions.  Though largely lost to history now\, Connecticut led the way in colonial America on investigating\, prosecuting and executing witches.  Jason Scappaticci will facilitate this discussion. Scappaticci is a CT Native and currently serves his third term on the Manchester CT Board of Education.  He has a passion for history and enjoys sharing that passion with others.  He earned his BA in History from Utica College and his MA from Trinity College in American Studies.  He is the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Capital Community College and loves that he gets to go to work every day in the historic G. Fox building. \nPlease visit Gunn Memorial Library’s website to register and obtain the Zoom link www.gunnlibrary.org

SUMMARY:The Suffragette Movement - A Shepaug Libraries Program
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Gunn Memorial Library\nWe are pleased to welcome back Historian Mark Albertson as he leads a lecture on the Suffragette Movement. This program traces the 19th century struggle by women to obtain the right to vote; in addition to such other issues as divorce\, temperance (alcohol and abusive husbands)\, equal pay for equal work and\, how many of these ladies became involved in the abolitionist movement.  The latter affiliation enabled the ladies to get their message into the press\, papers that supported the abolitionist movement.  Culminating in the maturing of the movement following the Civil War. \nPlease register here: https://www.gunnlibrary.org/programregistration/\nCONTACT:  Jessica  860-868-7586  gunnprograms@biblio.org
