Thank you for your interest in supporting The Burnham Library’s mission to serve the people of Bridgewater as a center for lifelong learning, and a community hub. While the Library receives a portion of our operating income from the Town of Bridgewater, we rely on additional income generated from our Endowment Fund to close the budget gap. Your gifts, grants, and contributions to the Library’s Endowment Fund support our annual operating budget which helps to advance library services, build collections, and improve technology and facilities.

The Bridgewater Library Association is a 501(c)3 non-profit public charity. Tax ID: 06-6044812

All inquiries are welcome, and we are available to provide additional information to you by phone at 860-354-6937 or by email donations@burnhamlibrary.org

How Are We Funded

  • 65% from the Town of Bridgewater. FY 20/21 contribution is $110,000.
  • 32% of investment income derived from endowment, capital, and savings funds.
  • 3% contribution from the Friends of the Library used toward general operating expenses and Library Page salary. The Friends also provide a significant amount of additional funding to supplement library services such as programming, Summer Reading, museum passes, capital improvements, and digital streaming services such as RBdigital and Hoopla.

We would like to express our infinite gratitude to Dr. Susie Beris for her generosity. Our newly renovated and revitalized Library space, The Susan Beris, MD Youth Learning Center, opened its doors in November 2019.

Additional opportunities to fund change are available! For more details, contact Betsy Perlman, President of the BLA Trustees and chair of the Development Committee. bperlman@burnhamlibrary.org

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Burnham Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer membership organization dedicated to supporting the activities and mission of the Burnham Library. The Friends provide funding for programs, museum passes, equipment, and services that would not be available through the library’s operational budget.

The Friends create public support for the Library and its programs through special events, such as their Cookie Bookie Sale, yearly membership campaign, and annual O Silent Night fundraiser. The resulting funds provide enhancements to the Library’s collection, improvement to Library spaces, sponsorship of community programming, art shows, Summer Reading, museum passes, and digital streaming services such as RBdigital and Hoopla.

We do not accept VHS tapes, textbooks, music CDs, or out of date reference books. Materials should be gently-used and from a smoke-free environment. We ask that all donations be brought to the Library during operating hours, and not left outside the Library or in the book drop.
